Making Of

The Beginning: Research

Before starting to script any of the files, we made a research on the desktop resolutions and plugins of browsers. Reviewing the statistics of the last two years, we know that apart from Smartphones every visitor had a higher resolution than 1024*768px.

Our website is full accessible without technologies as JavaScript and Flash to enhance the accessibility for people with disabilities. For a better user experience we worked with the jQuery framework which has a very high browser compatibility.

The technologies behind

The entire site is created with XHTML (Strict) and CSS2. As scripting language we used PHP in combination with a MySQL database in which the contents of the website are stored. PHP creates automatically the site according to the chosen language. The website automatically detects the language of the browser the visitor uses. To improve the user experience we use the jQuery framework which has a very high browser compatibility.

All images used on the website were created by the Webmaster team of our chapter during the research progress for this year's topic Web Accessibility: Designing for Internet for the Visually Impaired. Doing the research we talked to a lot of experts, impaired persons, and webdesigners who try to ameliorate the situation of the impaired.

We also used the great icon pack from Rogie King for the social network icons.

Teamwork while research tasks

Besides using software-as-a-service hosted on our own server to make sure everybody of our Webmaster team works with the current revision status we applied modern time keeping and project planning methods. A lot of the text added this year to the website have been edited using voice recognition software.
